Electrical Engineer, Post Doc Circuit Design

We are looking for an outstanding Electrical Engineer to design and develop system hardware including analog front-end (AFE), data acquisition (DAQ), and FPGA controls for sensing applications. The candidate will function in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment and will interact with engineers, biochemists, molecular biologists, and device development team. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across functional units and be comfortable taking hands-on approaches to rapidly build and validate new designs. The candidate will be responsible for PCB design and testing, VHDL/Verilog code development, and hardware/software interface.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design analog and digital PCB circuits, including schematic and layout using OPAMPs, ADC, DAC, LDO, DC-DC converters, etc.
  • Develop VHDL/Verilog codes for FPGA.
  • Develop customized hardware/software interface for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Develop testing criteria for design verification and production certification.
  • Assist in architectural design and parts selection.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of process improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience designing, debugging, and prototyping PCBs
  • Design, model, build, and test mixed analog and digital control and measurement boards.
  • Low current amplification and measurement design experience (picoammeter, feedback ammeter, electrophysiology/patch-clamp, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of analog and digital filtering.
  • High bandwidth (1-100 MHz) circuit design.
  • EMI shielding best practices.
  • Experience interfacing various sensors, microcontrollers, and devices
  • Knowledge of common communication buses such as I2C, CAN, Serial and SPI
  • Experience with Oscilloscopes and/or Logic Analyzers
  • Recent experience with FPGAs, CPLDs and a Hardware description language such as Verilog or VHDL
  • GPU programming experience is desired but not required
  • Outstanding soldering ability is a plus
  • PhD preferred, open to highly qualified Master’s and exceptional Bachelor’s holders as well

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate and improve semiconductor components, microfluidics and nano-sensors utilized in INanoBio’s diagnostic platforms
  • Design, build, optimize, and validate custom data acquisition systems for multiplexed ultra-low current measurement of a large array of sensors
  • Work on data collection and analysis using statistical software
  • Design and fabricate microfluidic components and integrate them into diagnostic devices
  • Perform failure analysis and root cause analysis
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

Requirements

  • PhD in electrical engineering, material science, chemistry, physics, or related science or engineering discipline
  • At least 5 years of experimental experience in designing and testing nano-sensors, Field Effect Sensors (FETs), transducers, or other sensing applications
  • Prior experience with microfluidics, instrumentation, data acquisition systems.
  • Experience in engineering and design software including LabVIEW, Matlab, AutoCAD, and Solidworks.
  • Interdisciplinary experience in bio or chemical sensing is a plus
  • Proven publication history
